Road Racers are the Top Purchasers of Event Registration Insurance

Richmond, Virginia, October 5, 2023 –  Allianz Partners USA, a leader in travel protection and consumer specialty insurance, has found that road racers are the athletes who most often purchase the company’s Event Registration ProtectorSM product to protect their race investment. According to a recent survey of Event Registration ProtectorSM customers conducted in advance of the Allianz Partners Richmond Marathon, 43% of customers surveyed purchased the insurance product for a road race, followed by 28% for a cycling race and 17% for a triathlon, among the results.  Seventy-seven percent of racers surveyed agreed that having the insurance gave them peace of mind while training for their race.

Road racers were tied with cyclists with 69% likely to purchase Event Registration ProtectorSM for their next event, followed by triathlon racers at 66% and swimmers at 50%.  These findings were the results of a survey conducted by Allianz Partners of 1,100 Event Registration ProtectorSM customers during September 2023.

The survey also found that 39% of the customers surveyed registered for 3 to 5 races per year, 32% raced 1 or 2 times per year and 14% raced 6 to 8 times per year.

To help both racers and event organizers, Allianz Partners offers runners Event Registration ProtectorSM , which can help provide both peace of mind for racers and protection against lost registration fees when participants can’t run for a reason covered under their plan. Race registration protection is available to runners at top competitions around the country, including the 46th running of the Allianz Partners Richmond Marathon, scheduled for November 11, 2023 in Richmond, VA. Thousands of runners and spectators are expected to come out for the historic race dubbed “America’s Friendliest Marathon.” Allianz Partners is proud to sponsor the race for the second year running.

Event Registration ProtectorSM can reimburse registrants up to 100 percent of pre-paid non-refundable registration expenses if a racer cannot attend for a number of covered reasons, such as covered injury/illness (of the racer or a family member), job loss, transportation delays, military/family/legal obligations, and more, depending on their plan.* The plans also include 24/7 assistance services, which can offer racers help with race-related problems or questions when things don’t go quite as planned.

Looking to build on their running-industry partnerships, Allianz Partners is a “Foundation” member of Running USA. Foundation status allows Allianz Partners to connect with Running USA event sponsors and participants on a wide range of topics from news, thought leadership, sponsorships, innovation, as well as information about the company’s products and working with them.

“We’re really pleased to offer runners a product that so many have said gives them peace of mind while training for their race.  Road racing is close to our hearts and supporting these athletes has been a labor of love,” said Chris Garlock, vice president of marketing strategy at Allianz Partners USA. “Event Registration Protector provides runners with protection for their race registration fees when they can’t race due to a reason covered by their plan. Race organizers also like the fact that racers have access to a product that can increase their confidence to register. We find that leads to better racer satisfaction and event loyalty.”

Since its launch in 2012, Event Registration ProtectorSM has protected over 450,000 runners and covered more than $4 million in registration costs. In addition to further building relationships with racers and race organizers alike, Allianz Partners is proud to support Running USA and its members to help the industry to continue to thrive.
